Bill Schiffer 1976 Ink Drawings

Item Details

Ink on paper

A collection of ink drawings on paper by New York artist Bill Schiffer (Contemporary). These Op Art pieces depict fields of undulating shape and pattern rendered in thin lines that are arranged to create perspective. Each is signed to the lower right and dated 1976. The works are all presented behind white mats and unframed, with labels to the versos.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
