Bill Schiffer Drawings on Paper

Item Details

Charcoal on paper

A group of three drawings on paper by New York artist Bill Schiffer (Contemporary). Included in the lot is an oil pastel drawing dated 2015 that depicts a stylized drawing of that looks like a comet colliding with a red planet in space, a charcoal drawing dated 1990 of a field of scribbled lines with dark and thick lines forming a large egg shape, and a graphite drawing dated 1966 that depicts a man’s portrait. Each is signed and dated to the lower right. The works are all presented unmatted and unframed.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
