Large Antique Hand-Knotted Heriz Serapi Area Rug
Item Details
A large, antique Heriz Serapi area rug. This gorgeous wool rug is hand knotted in an abrashed palette of rust, midnight blue, ivory, emerald, cerulean and mocha. It begins with a very large star medallion with oversized palmette pendants over a rust-colored, hexagonal field. Populating the medallion, field, and spandrels are expressively rendered, stylized palmettes, vines, flowers, and foliage and abstract motifs. Spandrels have sawtooth edges and phases in ivory, rust, and emerald. The field is framed by compound unresolved borders, including a samovar border over midnight blue, flanked by three meandering-floral minor borders. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at one end with unbound wool warp fringe, while the other end is fringeless. Blue weft threads are visible on the underside. The rug is unlabeled.
