Bill Schiffer 1988 Oil Paint Marker Drawings

Item Details

Other

A pair of oil paint marker drawings on paper by New York artist Bill Schiffer. These geometric abstractions depict arrangements of shapes in checkerboard, sawtooth, and woodgrain with fields of solid color, as well as the inclusion of some recognizable forms such as Schiffer’s geometric figure and a clover. They are both signed to the lower right and dated 1988. The works are presented behind glass in thin, painted black wood frames with wire to the verso for hanging.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
