Early 1980s Mego 2-XL Robot and Mattel Children's Discovery System

A pair of early electronic educational toys. This collection features a 2-XL toy robot produced by the Mego Corporation circa 1981; first introduced in 1978, this talking toy robot with lighted eyes is considered the first ‘smart’ toy, using 8-track player technology to create interactive multiple-choice quizzes. This collection also includes a Children’s Discovery System toy computer, produced by Mattel circa 1980, as well as ten 2-XL tapes and eight Children’s Discovery System cartridges. The 2-XL is marked ‘© 1978 Mego Corp. Made in Taiwan R. O. C.’ and labeled with the serial number 456720, and the Children’s Discovery System is marked ‘© Mattel Inc 1980 Philippines’.
