1790 George Smith III & William Fearn London and Other Sterling Spoons
Item Details
A three-piece collection of sterling silver shell spoons. Featured is a scroll-rimmed spoon in the Hampton Court pattern by Reed & Barton (first introduced 1964) and a late 19th century spoon featuring an engraved bright cut floral design by Towle Silversmiths. The pattern was introduced in 1882 and this particular spoon was retailed by Hartdegen & Co. of Newark, NJ. Both items bear sterling and maker’s marks to the handles. Also included is a spoon by George Smith III & William Fearn featuring a repoussé strawberry to the center of the bowl and an Old English handle decorated with an engraved foliate paisley design. It bears English hallmarks of a lion standard mark, a London city mark, a ‘P’ for 1790, a George III duty mark and a George Smith III & William Fearn maker’s mark. The total approximate weight of all items together is 3.570 ozt.
