A 1945 oil painting on canvas board by artist J. Perry Smith. The piece depicts the portrait of a young woman with medium-length dark hair and faint smile, seated against a mottled brown background. She is depicted wearing a sleeveless evening gown with crimped aqua fabric gathered at her shoulders. The work is signed in paint to the lower right, appearing to read ‘J Perry Smith 4/45’. It is presented without glass in a mid-century wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- surface wear to painting with scratches, scuffing and media loss present; discoloration, stains, dirt and accretion to image area; surface wear, dust, nicks and scuffing to frame; no backing paper present; frame joints are not fully flush.
