Handwoven Sewan Kazak Carved Area Rug

Item Details

A hand-knotted Sewan Kazak carved area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cinnamon, mocha, camel, and other browns, along with taupe and cream. It features a tripartite shield lozenge with a cap at each end in phases of cinnamon, taupe, and cream. The lozenge is populated by two-headed animal abstract motifs and other abstract geometric elements as well as numerous ram’s horns, hooks, and an eight-point star at the end of each cap. It has been carved along the design lines for a textural (or dimensional) appearance. The lozenge rests on a mocha field, which features symmetrically arranged tree forms. Framing the field are thirteen narrow borders. These include laleh abbasi, dog-tooth, running dog and running water patterns. Selvedges are double overcast. The rug finishes at one end with camel hair and wool undyed warp fringe, while the other end features a short kilim skirt and braided warp fringe. Unlabeled.
