Hand-Knotted Persian Teaching Rug

A hand-knotted Persian teaching rug. This wool carpet is hand-knotted in a palette of pale golden-tan, cinnamon red, olive green and cream. This unique rug features a design of asymmetrical palmettes, curvilinear vines, and leaves. It is framed with borders of carnation meanders, lobbed flowers, cruciform, and quatrefoil shapes. The rug appears to have been a teaching rug, with a learning weaver completing half and an experienced weaver the other, the differences in skills are evident in the weave. Finished with fringe to either end and overcast edges. Unlabeled.

Condition
- some edge wear, damaged corner, multiple yellowish/pale stains along long edge with the damaged corner, a few darker/bluish stains along opposite long edge.
