Hand-Knotted Northwest Persian Carpet Runner

A northwest Persian tribal carpet runner. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cranberry, cerulean, emerald, and pink. It begins with a vertical row of seven hooked medallions over a cranberry lozenge and field. Filling the field are stars, florets, and other geometric, symbolic motifs. The field is framed by compound borders, including a stylized split-leaf boat border over cranberry. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. Unlabeled.
