Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Loving Cup

Item Details

A porcelain loving cup by Royal Crown Derby made at the Osmaston Road factory, circa 1947. This cup features two double scroll handles with gold trim attached to the sides of a rounded well with a flared rim and base. The exterior features hand printed and enameled hunting scenes by an unknown artist after works by prominent English artist John Noble Barlow (1861-1917). The images are signed ‘J. Barlow’ to the lower margins, often signed as such by artists who were not allowed to sign their own names. The underside of the cup bears a red ‘Royal Crown Derby Made in England, X’ stamp, used 1921-1940. The ‘X’ roman numeral year cypher dates the piece to 1947.
