"The Catcher in the Rye" Book Art by Appropriation Artist Richard Prince

Item Details

Paper

A copy of The Catcher in the Rye book sculpture by appropriation artist Richard Prince. Prince (b. 1949), an American photographer and painter famous for his ‘re-photographs’ of famous works, has here ‘re-authored’ J.D. Salinger’s famous novel. This reproduction of the first edition of The Catcher in the Rye is identical to the original, with the classic dust jacket, but features Prince’s name as author rather than Salinger. The backside of the title page features the statement ‘This is an artwork by Richard Prince. Any similarity to a book is coincidental and not intended by the artist.’ The piece is signed by Prince to the back cover with his initials, ‘PR.’ The work was published by American Place in 2011.
