Vintage Model Sailing Ship in Wood Display Box

Item Details

A vintage ship model in glass and wood case. The piece features a darkly stained wood and glass case with an inlaid wood star to the top and a model ship to the interior. The model features multiple canvas sails and wooden booms and deck with numerous strings connecting the base and the masts. There are no visible maker’s marks. A indiscernible handwritten script is located on the underside of the box with the date ‘1931’. The ship possibly depicts the Essex, a whaling ship from Nantucket which operated in the first quarter of the 19th century.
