An oil on canvas landscape painting by well-listed American artist Albert Ernest Backus (Florida; 1906 – 1990). This untitled folk art painting displays a clear blue ocean in the background as a bright red tree and tall palm trees decorated the foreground. The painting is signed by hand in paint to the lower right, presented in gold-tone frame with moulded details and hanging wire on verso.
Backus is best known among collectors as being one of the most influential artists of the mid-century group of African-American male folk art painters The Highwaymen, who prolifically created paintings of their Floridian surroundings and sold the works out of their cars.
