19th Century Mexican Hand Decorated Terra Cotta Lidded Jar with Shell Inlays

A 19th century Mexican hand decorated terra cotta lidded jar with shell inlay and Aztec head side accents. The jar has a domed lid with tapered finial, ringed top, shoulder decorated with glazed beaded border, along with incised ‘Mexico’ and ‘Viva’ text. The bulbous body of the jar is in an unglazed terra cotta with burnished glazed terra cotta flowers with white shell stamen centers. A pair of dimensional Aztec heads accent the sides of the jar. The jar’s body tapers down to a round turned base. Marked to the verso ‘Made in Mexico N’.
