A hand-carved folk art bear hunting scene by Jan Fancey. The polychrome-decorated scene depicts a black bear standing on its hind legs in front of a brown dog and an injured hunter, who is laying on the ground behind a camp fire with a rifle below his right hand. The bear has a gun shot wound on its chest while the dog and hunter exhibit scratches and wounds. The figures are mounted to a brown, rectangular plank, which is signed ‘Jan Fancey’ to the edge of one short end and to the red-painted underside.
Condition
- the figures have been re-glued to the wooden plank with some resulting, small cracks to plank near bear’s feet; bear with a repaired break to its right arm with two broken/missing claws and a couple tiny/minor claw chips; two of the dog’s legs have repaired breaks and there is a loss to its rear, right leg and to its tail.
