Early 19th Century Latin American Hand Painted Terra Cotta Sculpture
Item Details
Terracotta
An early 19th century Latin American hand painted terra cotta figural sculpture, part of a religious tableaux. The piece depicts a child, possibly the Baby Jesus, shown with delicately painted features and embossed brown curly hair, with fragments of a linen garment sleeve to the right arm fragment and a cream gathered loin cloth to the lower torso. The intense staring eyes and quixotic smile give the sculpture an otherworldly aura. The piece is unmarked.
