Original Jamie Reid-Designed 1970s Sex Pistols "Vicious Burgers" Poster
Item Details
An original 1970s Sex Pistols Vicious Burger poster The vibrant poster was designed by Jamie Reid for Virgin Records for promoting the release of Sid Vicious’s ’C’Mon Everybody’ single, a cover of the Eddie Cochran’s 1958 song of the same name. The photo was taken by prominent rock photographer Bob Gruen in New York in 1978. In addition to Vicious’s image, text art bottom reads ’C’Mon Everybody – New Single VS272 From The Album – The Great Rock ‘N’ Roll Swindle – Out Now On Virgin Records VD2510.’ The album was released Feb. 26, 1979 w/Vicious’s single being released June 22, 1979 four months after Vicious died of a heroin overdose. Jamie Reid’s cut-and-paste aesthetic, as seen on this Sex Pistols poster, developed from his interest in 1970s radical politics. His artistic style developed while at art college in Croydon, where he was influenced by the ideas of the avant-garde political group, the Situationist International. The political slant to his art was aroused by the May 1968 Paris student riots, which inspired fraternal protests organised by Reid at the Croydon College of Art. These were directed with fellow student Malcolm McLaren, who would later become the manager of the Sex Pistols. More information about Jamie Reid is included in the enclosed link.
