Item Details
A vintage handwoven Anatolian Bergama wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of scarlet, pale yellow, white, sky blue, carnation, black, and violet. The striated scarlet colored field begins with a large diamond medallion capped with rosettes and infilled with a cruciform motif, and features hooked guls, star motifs, and edged in an arrowhead pattern. Framing the field is a main serrated leaf quatrefoil border, guarded with a floral patterned border, and a bracket meander, as well as barber pole minor borders. Finishing this rug is a skirt to all four edges, with overcast selvedges and a short ivory wool warp fringe to the ends with a blanket stitch. Unlabeled.
