Three Circa 1930s Color Etchings on Paper of French Landscape Scenes

A set of three mid-century colored etchings of French landscape scenes. Featured is a 1935 etching on paper titled Sur la Rive depicting a French village with a glassy river to the foreground, rendered in soft hues of blue, green, yellow and brown. The print is signed ‘Alex’ in graphite to the lower right and titled to the lower left, with an additional notation of ‘10’ in graphite to the lower left and ‘Copyright 1935 Camilla Lucas – NY – USA’ in plate to the upper left. It also includes a marking of ‘SZL’ in plate to the lower left corner, denoting the work as a print from Sydney Z. Lucas’s Paris Etching Society, as well as a foil sticker to the frame verso with further information about the ‘SZL’ marking. Also included are two similar works, both unsigned, each depicting a French river landscape scene. Two of the prints are presented under glass in matching gold tone wooden frames, each fitted with sawtooth hangers to the verso.

Condition

- to fair; some toning and discoloration to prints and matting; moderate wear to frames, with scuffing and nicks present; wear and adhesive to frame backings.
