A large Persian Kashan area rug. This floral wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of pomegranate, midnight blue, cream, and azure. It begins with a curvilinear star pendant medallion grounded in azure, cream, and midnight blue. The medallion rests on a pomegranate-colored field, which is populated with crisply rendered palmettes, flowers, leaves, and vines. Spandrels are phased in midnight blue, cream, and azure. The field is framed by six floral borders including a primary herati border grounded in midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short cotton warp fringe. Unlabeled.
