Hand-Knotted Afghani Turkish Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Afghani Turkish carpet runner. This striking, finely hand-knotted carpet runner features a series of arrow point star medallions in indigo and scarlet running the length of a deep scarlet ground, surrounded by large geometric leaf forms and ram’s horn elements in indigo, scarlet, pale orange and contrasting bright white, with small boteh elements. The inner guard border is a carnation meander pattern next to a wide border in a floral chain design in the field colors. The primary border is next to a gul-i-badam split leaf pattern, finishing with an outer guard border having a zig-zag pattern and small ‘hand’ forms in ochre, orange, scarlet and indigo to blue-black. It has a woven kilim skirt to each end in the same colors, and has double overcast edges on a natural, undyed grey goat hair foundation with tied fringe. It is unlabeled.
