A Victorian silver plate ice watcher pitcher by Meriden Brittania Co. This footed pitcher features an original design patented by James Stimpson of Baltimore in 1854. A second patent for an improved valve was issued to William Worcester Lyman in 1858. The body is decorated with floral engravings and shell designs. It has a D-shaped handle adorned with a bear finial and finishes with a hinged lid and white porcelain liner. The underside features a Meriden Brittania Co. maker’s mark, James Simpson and William Worcester Lyman patent marks, and three updated patent marks dated March, June, and November of 1868.

- to poor; significant surface wear including dents, scratches, and overall tarnish.
