A machine-woven tapestry. This piece depicts a Medieval garden scene in the millefleur style, with a flat, dark ground crowded with flowers surrounding the scene in which a group of nobles surrounds a fountain. There are figures playing instruments, holding a bird, a woman gathering water in a dish and tugging on a man’s coat, and a child leading a lamb. A shield crest is woven into the lower left corner, and a layer of batting behind the tapestry gives it depth within the frame. The piece is unsigned and presented in a gold tone frame with molded floral ornamentation and hooks to the verso for hanging.
