East Asian Goldwork Embroidery of a Bird

A Chinese goldwork embroidery on silk. This hand-stitched piece depicts a small songbird perched on a flowering tree branch and surrounded by a swirling floral border on a circular piece of red silk. The solid border and linework of the image are stitched using couched gold tone wire-wrapped threads. The work is presented with a white backing and mat, under glass, and in a gold tone wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging. It is wired to the verso in a corner, to be hung with the frame as a diamond. It is unsigned.
Condition
- accretion to glassy; light wear to frame finish; light wrinkling to textile; piece is mounted at an angle, in correct orientation when hung from wire to verso, also at angle.
