A circa 1960s woodblock print on paper titled Evening Falls on the Tower of Kōfuku-ji, Nara, or alternately Nara Kōfuku-ji Pagoda on an Early Spring Evening (奈良興福寺塔早春夕暮), by Kyoto, Japan painter, printmaker and publisher Tokuriki Tomikichirō (徳力富吉郎, 1902 – 2000). The Shôwa era print originates from the series titled Beautiful Views in Japan and depicts an evening Nara landscape, with the Kōfuku-ji temple towering behind a peaceful pond of gently rippling blue waters. The image is signed with calligraphy in plate to the upper right, adjacent to a red publisher’s seal. It is matted in cream and presented under glass in a black and gold tone wooden frame, fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- water damage present to print, with staining to upper left corner of both paper and matting; water damage visible to large portion of frame’s backing paper; slight warping to ground; overall toning and discoloration throughout print and matting; scuffing, chips, marks and edge wear to frame.
