A collection of plenary indulgence certificates, issued by the Catholic church on behalf of the Couzens family. These three hand-lettered pieces are detailed with gouache and gold tone paint, featuring portraits of church leaders toward their upper edges. They are marked as being issued for ‘Mrs. Margaret Couzens and Family’ or ‘Mrs. James Couzens and Family,’ and are mounted under glass in gold tone frames with wires for hanging.

Condition

- edge wear to frames; varying degrees of discoloration and foxing on all three documents; abrasions and damage to surface of certificates; heavy wear to versos.
