A carved wood N’tomo style mask with cowrie shell and bean accents from the Bamana people of Mali. N’tomo masks feature four to ten comb-like teeth, representing the seeds made by God to create the universe. This mask has six projections, indicating it is masculine. The face features elongated, geometrically abstract features, topped by the head of an antelope. Hanging hardware is affixed to the verso, and there are no apparent maker’s marks.

- to fair; chips, scratches, and dents throughout; wear and abrasion to wood; patina to the inside consistent with use; accretion throughout.
