A Bamana style carved wooden Chiwara antelope sculpture. This work depicts a stylized figure with slender features crouched on an antelope, which features arched horns, pointed ears and stout legs. This Chiwara would traditionally be mounted to a headdress for a harvest ceremony, with the design meant to represent different types of grains. The sculpture is otherwise unmarked.

Condition

- dust and debris; scratches and cracking; two cracks repaired to the side of the base figure; mounting holes to the verso.
