A large Benin bronze warrior sculpture. This piece presents a standing figure wearing clothing with a diamond pattern and a helmet with a cross-shaped finial. The figure holds a sword and also wears bangles and neck rings. The sculpture is presented on a black painted wood base, and there are no apparent maker’s marks.

Condition

- some chips and wear around the base; accretion and oxidation throughout; evidence of previous repair to the back of figure; hole to the neck of figure; small hole to the sword-holding shoulder of figure; additional holes to the back of figure toward lower edge.
