An original signed limited edition aquatint etching by listed Italian artist Giuseppe Santomaso (1907 – 1990). The Abstract Expressionistic work is primarily in shades of gray and black with red accents, on a light neutral background. The work is composed of airily textured dark gray/black square and triangular forms arranged around a dense black cube with an open center to the middle of the composition. A freeform red linear element to the lower left corner punctuates the monochromatic nature of the piece. The etching is pencil-numbered 22 out of an edition of 35, titled to the center in French and pencil-signed to the lower right margin. The work is presented under glass in an off white mat and narrow gilded frame. The piece is wired to the verso for wall hanging. Guiseppe Santomaso was a co-founder of the ‘Nouva Secessione artistica italiana’, a progressive Italian artist group. His work is widely exhibited and collected.
