A 1945 charcoal and graphite drawing on paper. The piece depicts a tropical beach landscape with a graceful palm to the foreground, set against a backdrop of rippling ocean currents, a wooden pier and a small military seaplane, rendered in shades of grey and black against a cream ground. The work is dated and initialed in graphite to the lower right, appearing to read ‘JR, 2/6/45’. It is matted in cream and presented under glass in a wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso.

Condition

- to fair; toning, mat burn and discoloration to paper and matting; chips, scratching and edge wear to frame, with piece missing to top right; glass could benefit from cleaning; wear to frame backing.
