An early 20th-century etching on paper after a circa 1670 painting titled A Rocky River Landscape with a Waterfall by listed Dutch artist Jacob van Ruisdael (1628 – 1682). The piece depicts a small cottage along the banks of a storm-swept river, as nearby trees blow in the wind. The print is unsigned but includes a notation of ‘Hel. u. impr. Meisenbach Riffarth & Co.’ printed in plate to the lower right margin. It is presented under glass in a vintage wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- discoloration and toning throughout print, with areas of foxing and staining; nicks and scratches to frame; glass is pitted; wear to frame backing.
