A Chinese pâte de verre Tittot style glass figurine. This piece depicts a guardian lion with back leg stretched in front of its face to clean its paw. It is molded with delicate swirls to the mane and tail and rests on a ribbed pedestal. The piece bears an incised Chinese signature to the base. It is dated 1998 and numbered 565 in an edition of 999. Pâte de verre, or glass paste, utilizes the lost wax method of casting. The mold is then filled with shards of ground glass and fused in a kiln firing process which creates subtle color gradations.
