An oil painting on canvas portrait of a female nude by listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1937. This work depicts a full length portrait of a woman seating with crossed legs among fluctuating blue tapestries. The piece is signed and dated in paint to the lower left. The composition remains unframed.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
