An original signed Abstract Expressionistic oil on canvas by listed artist G. Ferroni. The 1953 painting has a stark and ominous quality with a surreal and mysterious tapered tower with barbed top, appearing to hover over a gray skull with cavernous eye sockets and elongated dagger-like teeth. To the right background a filled vessel sits atop a promontory and four pointed barbs frame the composition on the left side. The painting is worked in an impasto paint application in a monochromatic color palette of black, gray, cream with accents of indigo blue and red. The piece is presented in a beveled wood frame with black inner liner and decorative carved wooden filet. The painting is signed, dated and titled to the verso. Wired to the back for wall hanging.
