An original Abstract Expressionistic oil on canvas by listed New York artist Leighton Smith (20th Century). The colorful and vibrant work depicts a gathering of ceremonial dancers, both male and female. The painting is rendered with impasto brushstrokes, conveying an energy of movement and spirit. To the background are rolling black hills with a blue sky above. Vertical white plumes which stream from the sky down to the earth add a surreal element to the piece.
