W. Clauberg M1850 Staff & Field Officer's Sword and Scabbard

A high-grade M1850 Staff & Field Officer’s sword and scabbard. This sword features a brass hilt with pierced ‘US’ scrollwork incorporated into a semi-basket guard, an unusual fluted brass grip, and ornately cast eagle and star emblem in relief to pommel. The blade shows an etched patriotic eagle with a banner in mouth, inscribed ‘E Pluribus Unum’. To the reverse is an etched ‘US’ scrolling motif. The ricasso bears a ‘standing knight’ maker’s mark of W. Clauberg, Solingen. The sword is accompanied by a metal scabbard with brass fittings.

Condition

- Some rust spots. Quillon appears to be broken/missing.
