1943 Japanese Shin-Guntō Sword with Scabbard

A 1943 Japanese shin-guntō sword with scabbard. Created in autumn of 1943, this piece features a single-edged, slightly curved blade with a carved brass tsuba showing images of the cherry blossom and with a central catch. The ray skin grip has a diamond pattern cord wrap, and can be removed after removing the mekugi peg to show the signed and dated tang underneath with the name ‘Spruill’ also etched to the edge. The sword has a brown rank tassel attached, and is presented in its original metal scabbard with a single suspension ring.

Condition

- missing pommel cap; grip frayed with cord unwinding; some tarnish to metal elements including spots of wear to blade; some rust to scabbard exterior.
