Wedgwood Piranesi Plates

A collection of twelve Wedgwood Piranesi transferware plates. The plates feature a white glazed surface with a fluted rim and a brown transferware image to the center with original Giovanni Battista Piranesi drawings of Piazza Del Popolo, The Barberini Palace, The Arch of Constantine and The Colosseum, The Bridge and Castle of St. Angelo, Piazza Di San Pietro and many others, selected and distributed under the late Archbishop of Boston, Richard Cushing. Each plate is marked to the underside “Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlaston, Made in England’ with notes that they are distributed under the auspices of the Most Reverend, Richard J. Cushing, Archbishop of Boston, for a children’s charity.
