Hokusai Woodblocks from "Panoramic Views of Both Banks of the Sumida River"

A set of five early 19th century ukiyo-e Japanese woodblock prints on paper by Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾 北, circa 1760-1849) from the book Panormaic Views of Both Banks of the Sumida River at a Glance. Among the prints included are the Dock at Koume and the Moon of Ōkawabashi. The prints feature a lively village scene of people playing games and taking walks paired with inscriptions to the top margin. The print, as it is taken from a book, is folded in even increments and has been laid out to display the scene in its entirety. This work is presented mounted and housed in a wooden frame under glass.
