A woodblock print on paper from the series Seven Roles of Iwai Hanshirō (七役の内おそめ 岩井半四郎) by Utagawa Kunisada (歌川 国貞, 1786-1865). The print depicts the Kabuki actor Iwai Hanshirō (岩井半四郎) in a female role wearing an elaborate aubergine kimono while holding an indigo parasol. The print’s title is printed in the upper left among cherry blossoms. The artist’s ‘Gototei Kunisada ga’ (五渡亭国貞画) signature is printed in the lower right alongside a kiwame censor seal and a publisher’s seal. Housed in a wood frame under acrylic glass and matting.
Condition
- minor wear to the finish on the frame; toning to the print and mat; some fading to the colors on the print.
