1890 Toyohara Chikanobu Woodblock on Paper "Shun"
Item Details
An 1890 woodblock on paper titled Shun (舜) from the series Twenty-four Paragons of Filial Piety by Toyohara Chikanobu (豊原周延, 1838-1912), also known as Yōshū Chikanobu (楊洲周延). The work depicts two adjacent scenes depicting a female and male figure working on a field. The print and series titles are printed in the upper right corner and the artist’s printed signature ‘Yōshū Chikanobu’ (楊洲周延) is in the lower left corner. Publication information, including the 1890 date (Meiji 23) are printed in the outer margins. This woodblock is presented beneath red matting, behind glass, housed in a carved wood frame.
