A late 19th century Japanese woodblock print with a hand-colored details of a quail after a painting by Rinpa school master Ogata Kōrin (尾形光琳, 1658-1716). The work depicts a bird with tall grass. Both the green grass and white of the quail is raised on the paper. The work reproduces the artist’s signature and seal in the lower right corner. Several printed inscriptions in the margins indicate the original artist, publication information including the publication date of 1893 (Meiji 26). The print is presented under glass with a gold-toned wooden frame.
Condition
- some wear tot he edges of the frame; glass could benefit from a cleaning; rip to the top of the paper; small holes to the center of the print; to the verso, some wear to protective backing.
