A mid to late 20th-century lithograph print on paper after an 1894 relief print on vellum titled The Stomach Dance by well-listed British artist Aubrey Beardsley (1872 – 1898). The work depicts the biblical story of the dance of Salome, with a female figure shown performing the ‘Dance of the Seven Veils’ to the upper right, as a figure with long flowing hair plays a cello-type instrument with broken strings to the foreground. The image includes Beardsley’s monogram printed in plate to the lower right. It is matted in light olive green and presented under glass in a gold tone metal frame.
Condition
- minor discoloration to paper and matting; slight edge wear and scuffing to frame; no hanging hardware present.
