An original signed genre scene watercolor on linen by listed Indian artist Gideon Devapriam Thyaga Raj (born 1930). The work depicts a genre scene, with farmers and buffalo resting under a forest of trees after a long day of work, with sun rays angling through the monumental canopy of branches. The men are gathered together in several groups, with their carts nearby, seated around a fire with cooking vessels at hand for meal preparation, and the white water buffalo resting to the mid ground. The work is rendered in an expressive manner with bold brushwork and in rich shades of indigo, gray, ocher, burnt sienna, black and white. The painting is signed to the lower right corner and displayed under glass in a green-painted beveled wooden frame. Wired to the back for hanging.
