Hand-Knotted Persian Kashan Area Rug

A hand-knotted Persian Kashan area rug. This wool rug begins with a layered oval medallion containing palmetts, lancet leaves and blossoms along with shah abassi palmette pendants. The medallion rests on a ruby field populated crisp palmettes, flowers, leaves and vines, adding sapphire, ivory, olive and indigo to the palette. Spandrels are grounded in indigo, ivory and sapphire. Surrounding the field is an ornate herati main border flanked by carnation meander and sawtooth borders. Finishing the rug are overcast selvedges and ivory cotton warp fringe at each end. Unlabeled.
