Hand-Knotted Persian Kashan Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Kashan area rug. This wool rug features a bold palette of raspberry, midnight blue, powder blue, cream, golden yellow, olive green and orange, and begins with a central lozenge medallion with pendants on either end over a raspberry field. The field is filled with Shah Abassi palmettes, lancet leaves, flowers, and vines, elements that continue in the double spandrels. Framing the field are six compound borders, the primary of which features an ornate herati pattern over a midnight blue ground, and both floral and striped minor borders. Selvedges are overcast, and the rug finishes at each end with short knotted wool warp fringe. A tag to the reverse lists dimensions and production number.
