A hand-knotted central Persian area rug. This wool rug features a Sarouk-style design in a palette of ruby, vermillion, midnight blue, ivory, and artichoke. It begins in a star pendant medallion composed of flowers, with branching palmettes, the medallion resting on a contoured, ivory lozenge with a crowded field of floral vines with curvilinear, layered spandrels. The field is framed by three borders, including a floral primary border featuring a variety of flowers and rosettes over midnight blue, with two secondary, chevron borders. Selvedges are overcast, and the rug finishes at each end with short, knotted wool warp fringe. It is unmarked.
