An original signed oil on canvas mounted to board landscape attributed to listed Southern School artist Ellsworth Woodward (1861 – 1939). The work is in an abstract expressionistic style with a depiction of a tropical lagoon with a background of tall dense trees rendered in shades of yellow green and gray, with a pale aqua sky, and a lagoon with a small isle and shoreline with green and gold palm trees and marsh grasses to the foreground. The painting is worked in impasto brush strokes and signed to the lower right with the artist’s monogram. The painting is displayed in a vintage carved gray-washed wooden frame.
